Ethical Evaluation of an End-of-Life Legal Decision

A highly publicized legal case involved a woman in a persistent vegetative state. Her husband argued that, based on her previously expressed wishes, she would not want to be kept alive via a feeding tube. Her parents, however, argued for the preservation of her life, believing her occasional physical movements were signs of consciousness. After a prolonged legal battle that reached both state and federal courts, the courts ultimately sided with the husband, and life support was withdrawn. Evaluate the court's final decision in this case. In your evaluation, consider the ethical principles that support the husband's position versus those that support the parents' position, and justify which set of principles you believe should have carried more weight in the final ruling.
