EU's Prolonged Period of Below-Target Inflation (2009-2021)

For most of the period between 2009 and 2021, the European Union's inflation rate was below the 2% target set by its central bank. The average inflation rate during these years was approximately 1.6%, and the period was characterized by significant fluctuations, including episodes of deflation where prices fell.
