Evaluating a Production Technology Proposal

A manufacturing firm has a fixed budget of £40 for production inputs, which are labor (at £5 per worker) and coal (at £10 per ton). The firm is currently using a technology that employs 4 workers and 2 tons of coal. An engineering consultant proposes switching to one of two alternative technologies: Technology A (1 worker, 6 tons of coal) or Technology E (10 workers, 1 ton of coal), claiming they are 'more modern'.

Critically evaluate the consultant's proposal from a purely cost-based perspective. In your evaluation, calculate the cost of all three technologies and justify whether the firm should adopt either of the consultant's suggestions based on its financial constraint.
