Short Answer

Evaluating a Productivity Proposal

A manufacturing firm uses a production process where each machine requires exactly one operator to function, and this machine-operator pair produces 10 widgets per hour. The firm can add as many identical machine-operator pairs as it wants. A consultant proposes that to increase the average output per worker, the firm should simply double its workforce and the number of machines. Critically evaluate the consultant's proposal. Will this strategy achieve the stated goal of increasing the average output per worker? Explain your reasoning.
