Short Answer

Evaluating a Responder's Decision

In a one-time interaction, a Proposer is given $100 to divide with a Responder. The Proposer offers the Responder $1. The Responder rejects the offer, stating, "Receiving only $1 while the Proposer gets $99 is completely unfair. I would rather we both get nothing than accept such a disrespectful offer."

Critically evaluate the Responder's decision only from the perspective of a purely self-interested individual whose sole objective is to maximize their personal financial gain. Is the decision consistent with this perspective? Explain your reasoning.
