Case Study

Evaluating a Therapeutic Approach for PTSD

A therapist is working with a client who, following a severe car accident, experiences intrusive memories of the event, actively avoids driving or being a passenger in a car, and holds a strong belief that 'the world is a completely dangerous place.' The therapist proposes a treatment plan that involves two main components: 1) helping the client identify, challenge, and modify their belief about the world's dangerousness, and 2) gradually and safely reintroducing the client to the situations they have been avoiding, starting with sitting in a parked car and progressing towards short drives. Evaluate the suitability of this treatment plan for the client's specific symptoms and justify your reasoning.
