Evaluating an Economic Model with Historical Evidence

An economic model suggests that in pre-modern societies, any gains from technological progress were eventually offset by population growth, keeping living standards at a subsistence level. A historian, however, uncovers evidence from a 100-year period in pre-modern India showing that the introduction of new irrigation techniques coincided with both a significant increase in population and a sustained, measurable improvement in the average person's material wealth. Critically evaluate whether this historical finding completely invalidates the described economic model. Justify your reasoning.
