Evaluating an Economic Policy for an Agrarian Society

A leader of a large, isolated agricultural society with a fixed amount of fertile land and stable farming techniques observes that the population is growing rapidly. To combat rising poverty, the leader proposes a new law requiring every family to have more children to increase the total number of farm workers, believing that 'more hands on the farm will create more wealth for everyone.'

Critically evaluate the leader's proposal. Explain the economic reasoning behind why this policy is likely to succeed or fail in its goal of increasing the average wealth per person in the long run. In your answer, be sure to distinguish between the effect on the society's total production and the effect on the amount of goods available to the average individual.
