Evaluating Competing Wage Strategies

A large retail chain is opening a new flagship store in a competitive urban market. The management team is debating two different wage-setting strategies for its sales associates.

  • Strategy A: Set wages at the precise median level for retail sales associates in that specific city.
  • Strategy B: Set wages in the 75th percentile for retail sales associates in that city, significantly above the median.

Evaluate both strategies. In your evaluation, analyze the likely impact of each strategy on the company's ability to both attract new employees and keep its existing staff. Conclude by recommending one of the strategies and justifying your choice based on the potential trade-offs.
