Evaluating Economic Outcomes: Efficiency vs. Fairness

Imagine two farmers, Farmer A and Farmer B, share a plot of land. Both of the following outcomes for their harvest distribution are considered 'efficient', meaning it is impossible to make one farmer better off without making the other worse off.

  • Outcome 1: Farmer A receives 95% of the harvest and Farmer B receives 5%.
  • Outcome 2: Farmer A and Farmer B each receive 50% of the harvest.

Critique both outcomes. In your response, argue which outcome is preferable and justify your position by explicitly considering both the efficiency of the outcomes and the principles of fairness in distribution.
