Evaluating Economic Perspectives on a Complex Issue

A developing nation is experiencing rapid deforestation. This activity is creating jobs and boosting short-term economic growth, but it is also causing significant long-term environmental damage and displacing local communities. An economist specializing in Development Economics might primarily focus on poverty reduction and GDP growth from the new jobs. In contrast, an economist specializing in Environmental Economics might primarily focus on the costs of lost biodiversity and carbon emissions.

Critique the potential blind spots of each of these specialized approaches when considered in isolation. What crucial aspects of the problem might each perspective overlook, and why is a more integrated approach likely necessary to create a sustainable and equitable solution?
