Evaluating Public vs. Private Provision of Education

A developing nation's government is debating how to structure its national education system. One proposal is for the government to directly fund and operate all schools using tax revenue. A second proposal is to allow private companies to build and run all schools, charging tuition to students. In this second scenario, the government's only role would be to enforce basic safety standards. Evaluate the economic argument for the first proposal (direct government provision). In your evaluation, explain why a purely private system might fail to provide education in a way that benefits the entire society.
