Evaluating Relative Economic Performance Metrics

A common method for comparing international living standards is to plot the GDP per capita of various countries as a percentage of a benchmark country's GDP per capita over time (e.g., setting the U.S. = 100 each year). Critically evaluate this method of comparison. In your answer, discuss at least one major strength and one significant limitation of using this type of indexed, relative chart versus simply comparing the absolute, inflation-adjusted GDP per capita figures for each country.
