Effect of Data Frequency on Trend Line Smoothness in Economic Charts

The visual smoothness of a trend line in an economic chart can be influenced by the frequency of the data used. For example, China's GDP per capita trend in Figure 3.7 appears smoother because it is based on annual data, in contrast to other countries for which more volatile quarterly data may be available.
