Evaluating Signals of Artistic Commitment

An emerging artist wants to convince a prestigious gallery owner that they are a 'serious, long-term' artist, not a 'hobbyist' who might abandon their art career. The artist considers two actions to signal their commitment:

  1. Spending a year creating a large, complex, and technically difficult sculpture that has a low probability of selling immediately.
  2. Publicly announcing on social media that they are '100% committed' to their art and will be a famous artist one day.

Analyze and evaluate which of these two actions functions as a more effective signal of the artist's long-term commitment. In your answer, explain the key characteristic that a signal must have to be credible and why one of these actions possesses that characteristic while the other does not.
