Evaluating the Drivers of 18th-Century Productivity Growth

Some economic historians argue that the adoption of new machinery was the single most important factor behind the dramatic rise in the average output per worker in 18th-century Britain. Others contend that the reorganization of production through the specialization of labor was equally, if not more, critical. Evaluate these two perspectives. In your response, explain how both factors contributed to productivity gains and present a reasoned argument for which factor you believe had a greater impact, or if they were inseparably linked.
