Evaluating the Methodology of an Economic Study

A prominent economic study investigated worker productivity at a single technology firm from 2006 to 2010. The study found that worker productivity rose significantly during the severe economic downturn that began in 2008, despite the firm making no changes to its wage structure or formal incentive programs. The researchers attributed this productivity increase to the higher costs of job loss for employees during the recession. Critically evaluate this study as a 'natural experiment'. In your answer, identify the key strength that supports the researchers' conclusion and discuss at least one potential limitation or alternative explanation that could challenge their interpretation.
