Anita, a Deaf women of color and associate professor, noted that after recieving pushback about the expense of interpreters after requesting them as an accommodation to attend a conference, a staff person from the conference followed her and the interpreter around the conference taking notes on how Anita interacted with the interpreter and noted when Anita spoke aloud as an indication of whether Anita needed an interpreter.
