Example of a Double-Blind Drug Trial

To test the effectiveness of a new depression medication, a pharmaceutical company conducts an experiment where the experimental group receives the active drug and the control group receives an identical-looking sugar pill (placebo). Neither the clinical researchers nor the participants know who was given the drug and who was given the sugar pill. This double-blind design ensures that any differences in mood are due to the actual chemical properties of the drug, rather than participant expectations or experimenter bias.
