Example of Contradictory Findings: Technology's Impact on Students

The impact of technology in educational settings serves as a prime example of contradictory research findings where a scientific consensus has not yet been reached. While one study found that a smartphone app for surgery residents increased engagement and test scores (Shaw & Tan, 2015), another study indicated that technology use in undergraduate populations negatively affected sleep, communication, and time management (Massimini & Peterson, 2009). A clear consensus on technology's effects on students' learning and mental health will only form once sufficient research is conducted.
