Example of Experimenter Bias in Scoring

A researcher's expectations can unintentionally influence how they evaluate ambiguous data. For instance, if observers grading a math test know which participants are in the experimental or control groups, they might inadvertently interpret sloppy handwriting or minor computational mistakes in a way that supports their hypothesis. To protect against this bias, the individuals scoring the tests should ideally be kept blind to the group assignments.
