Example of Sensation vs. Perception: Cinnamon Rolls

An example that distinguishes sensation from perception can be found in the experience of smelling cinnamon rolls. The sensation is the physical process where scent receptors in the nose detect the cinnamon odor. In contrast, the perception is the psychological interpretation of that scent, which might trigger a personal memory or feeling, such as associating the smell with a grandmother's baking during family holidays.
