- Work on NMDA, AMPA, and Kainate ionotropic (ligand-gated ion channels) receptors and metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluR's)
- Excitotoxicity (death of neurons when overstimulated due to neural injury such as stroke or trauma) can occur with glutamate
