An existential crisis consists of a recurrent pattern of thoughts concerning one’s purpose and meaning of life, legacy, identity, and more. Existential questions could emerge at any point in an individual’s life, and it has the ability to disrupt mood and overall quality of life. Finding answers to these questions is not easy, and this could lead to feeling stuck. A person may feel uncertain about what to do. Existential crises are common because they tend to happen during life changes and transitions that pose difficulty adapting to, resulting in questioning the said change or transition.

Rogers posited that when therapists provide certain core conditions, clients are fully capable of navigating and resolving their own problems.
