Short Answer

Explaining the Shape of the Zero-Profit Line

A firm's revenue per employee is fixed at a certain amount. The 'zero-profit line' for this firm is a graph that shows all the combinations of wage and number of employees for which the firm makes exactly zero economic profit. This line has two distinct parts: a vertical segment along the y-axis (wage) and a horizontal segment extending from the top of the vertical segment. Analyze why the zero-profit line has this specific shape, explaining the economic meaning of each segment.
