Fetal Development at 24 Weeks
By the 24th week of gestation, the fetus's lungs begin to develop. At this stage, its hearing is developed, allowing it to respond to sounds. The internal organs, including the heart, stomach, and intestines, are sufficiently formed to give a prematurely born fetus a chance of survival outside the womb. The fetus typically weighs up to 1.4 pounds at this point.
