Figure 9.21 visually represents two self-reinforcing feedback loops: a vicious circle that perpetuates poverty, also known as a poverty trap, and a virtuous circle that sustains wealth. Together, these diagrams illustrate that situational risk aversion is a key mechanism, among others, that contributes to the persistence of wealth inequality.
