- Check to see if the immediate prerequisite already exists on the map
- Add/link the prerequisites necessary for the information you want to add

Ways to Find/Add Immediate Prerequisites (Parent Nodes)

All new child nodes need to be attached to the node that holds the immediate prerequisite information. Users must first find or add the parent node that contains the immediate prerequisite information for the child node they want to add.

Steps to Proposing a Child Node

A node is a parent of another node when it contains direct (immediate) prerequisite information that a user should understand to be able to learn the following node. A node can have multiple parents and can be a parent to multiple nodes.

After you click the pencil icon, a sidebar on the left-hand side of the map will provide a list of child node types. Select which one you need based on the information you are proposing.

3.Select Type of Child Node to Propose

Type the information you summarized into the title and content boxes of the node template. You can also explain why you are proposing the new child node in the notes section at the bottom of the node template. (This does not show up in the node content. It is only available when reviewing the proposal.) 

4.Fill in the New Node Template

All nodes should be tagged within the proper area of the map. Check to make sure the tag in your node reflects the area of the map it should be in. (All nodes you create will automatically carry your default tag.)

6.Check the Tag of the Child Node

Double-check to make sure all the information in the node is accurate, clear, comprehensive, and concise then click the green "Propose" button at the bottom left side of the template. 

7.Finalize and Propose the Child Node

1.Find the Immediate Prerequisite (Parent Node)

Once you find the immediate parent to the child node you want to propose, click the pencil icon on the footer of that parent node to propose a change.

2.Click to Propose a Change on the Parent Node

All information added to the 1Cademy map should be cited by linking the preexisting reference node to the child node using the "cite an existing Reference" button at the bottom of the template. Click that button, then click the reference node you want to link (See "Proposing a Reference Node" to add your citation to the map so you can link it).

5.Cite a Reference Node in the New Child Node

If you cannot find your immediate prerequisite (parent node), you need to find the closest (ancestor) prerequisite available within the topic you are working on. Then you will need to bridge the gap between that one and the node you want to propose by proposing other parent (prerequisite) nodes.

Add/Link Immediate Prerequisites (Parent Node)

To edit a node's parent links, first, click on the "View parent and child nodes" button. Then, click on the "Link to an existing parent" button at the bottom right-hand side of the node, above the "cancel" and "propose" buttons. Then, click on the parent you would like to link to.

To delete a parent link, first, choose a new parent, then click on the garbage can icon below the parent link you would like to delete.
