Concept
Forespore
During the initial stages of sporulation, the vegetative bacterial cell forms a septum that divides the cell asymmetrically. This separates a DNA forespore—essentially a copy of the cell's chromosomes enclosed by a second membrane—from the mother cell, serving as the foundation that will eventually form the core of the mature endospore.
