Four Components of the Relaxation Response Technique

The process of the relaxation response technique involves four key elements. It begins with adopting a comfortable, relaxed, upright sitting position in a quiet environment with eyes closed. The next step is to silently repeat a mantra, which is a word or phrase such as 'alert mind, calm body.' The final part of the process is to passively allow the mind to dwell on pleasant thoughts, for instance, imagining nature or focusing on the warmth of blood circulating through the body.
