Relaxation Response Technique

The relaxation response technique is a stress reduction method developed by cardiologist Herbert Benson. Conceptualized as a general approach to reducing stress, it works by decreasing sympathetic arousal. The technique combines elements of relaxation and transcendental meditation and involves four key components: sitting quietly, repeating a word or phrase, letting go of distracting thoughts, and focusing on pleasant ideas.
