Concept

French (Spanish) Lavender (Lavandula stoechas)

Lavandula stoechas is commonly known as French lavender, but in the USA it is also called Spanish lavender. Lavandula stoechas has the most showy flowers as long, larger petals (bracts) at the top of each spike, or inflorescence.

  • Lavandula stoechas has a more “resinous” scent than English lavender; it is very strong but less “sophisticated”. It is not usually used for oil or essential oil. It is less resilient than English lavender, so it is inappropriate for colder climates.
