Further research topics may want to explore within varying samples (public versus private schools, longitudinal studies and the potential benefits of sports participation on GPA are examined after many years and lastly the difference between high performing and low performing athletes.

The findings of the  present study were consistent with previous research documenting a positive relationship between sports participation and academic achievement and a link between academic success and self efficacy. Additionally, the present study found evidence for an indirect relationship between sports participation and GPA through the mediating variable of self efficacy with limitation however.

Limitations include lack of power, measurement issues and data collection. The A priori minimum sample was 128 participants but the current study had 111 participants and therefore had less power to detect significance. Secondly, measurement of athletes versus nonathletes was self reported which means no confirmation of whether they were practicing and competing regularly as a part of their program. Lastly, data collection was not monitored and could have been influenced by peers.
