Concept

Genetic Association of Narcolepsy

  • Specific human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles, most notably HLA DQB1*06:02, have demonstrated a robust association with narcolepsy.
  • This genetic marker is found more prevalently in narcolepsy patients, especially those experiencing cataplexy.
  • While genetic predisposition is a significant factor, it is not the sole determinant in the development of narcolepsy; environmental triggers also play a crucial role which contributes to the complex nature of narcolepsy etiology.
