Concept

Government Failure

Government failure occurs when government intervention in the economy, intended to correct a market failure, instead creates inefficiency and leads to a net loss of social welfare. This can happen for various reasons, including imperfect information, the influence of special interests, misaligned incentives for politicians and bureaucrats, and the inherent complexity of managing an economy.
