Greenberg's (1993) Study on Procedural Justice and Employee Theft

A 1993 study by Greenberg illustrated how perceptions of fairness influence employee behavior. In the experiment, students who received a curt, uninformative explanation for their pay rate were more likely to steal by taking more money than they were allotted, compared to students who received a detailed explanation. This outcome demonstrates that a lack of perceived fairness and procedural justice can lead to negative organizational behaviors like theft.
