Herpetic Gingivostomatitis Caused by Herpes Virus

Acute herpetic gingivostomatitis is caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). Infections of HSV-1 normally causes oral herpes, characterized by cord sores of the mouth.
