Higher Prices and Lower Quantity under Monopoly

Compared to a competitive market, a monopoly typically results in a worse outcome for consumers. A monopolist uses its market power to maximize profits by producing a lower quantity of goods and selling them at a higher price than would prevail under competition. This leads to a reduction in consumer surplus and a less efficient allocation of resources.
