Histoplasma capsulatum

Histoplasma capsulatum is a pathogenic, dimorphic ascomycete fungus that causes the respiratory infection histoplasmosis. It is ecologically associated with birds and bats, particularly in the Ohio and Mississippi river valleys, and conversion from mold to yeast occurs in the host's lungs.
