Slave economies have existed in various forms throughout history. Prominent examples include the Roman Empire, which relied heavily on enslaved people for agriculture, mining, and domestic service; the sugar plantations of the Caribbean and Brazil; and the cotton and tobacco plantations of the Antebellum South in the United States.
