How Sleep Affects Misinformation Susceptibility
A person is least susceptible to the misinformation effect when they are tested immediately after encountering the fake information. If a person sleeps between misinformation presentation and the recall test, they are more likely to recall the incorrect information. A possible explanation for this is that memory consolidation that occurs during sleep leads to "gist-based" representations of events.
