Data were collected in 100 different Chinese cities from January 19th to February 10th 2020. In China, a one degree Celsius increase in temperature reduced the R value (a measure of how fast the virus is growing) by 0.023. A one percent rise in relative humidity reduced the R value by 0.0078.

Data were collected in 1,000 U.S. counties from March 15th to April 25th. In the United States, a one degree Celsius increase in temperature reduced the R value by 0.020. An increase in relative humidity by one percent decreased the R value by 0.0080.

A study found that there is a significant trend of outbreaks along communities in the 30-50° N' corridor of similar weather patterns, indicating that COVID-19's transmission is consistent with the behavior of a seasonal respiratory virus. Weather modeling is a possible tool to predict future outbreaks in at-risk regions to concentrate public health efforts of surveillance and containment.
