Factors Affecting Wellbeing Beyond Purchased Goods and Services

An individual's wellbeing is not solely determined by the goods and services they can purchase and consume annually. It also heavily depends on the assets they possess, such as a comfortable house, and the quality of their physical environment, like the enjoyment of a beautiful natural setting. While some of these non-consumption assets are partially accounted for in economic measures like GDP (e.g., through the imputed rental value of an owner-occupied house), other crucial elements like the value of a natural environment are not captured.
