Inadequacy of Perception and Bewilderment in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 31, Poem 31)

In Chapter 31, Poem 31 of Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the repeated refrain 'what shall I do?' (چکنم) underscores the lover's state of absolute bewilderment and helplessness. The poem introduces a striking hyperbole: even if every atom in the two worlds were transformed into an eye, the lover would still be unable to adequately gaze upon the Beloved. This illustrates a central Sufi theme that divine beauty is overwhelmingly infinite and inherently transcends the finite human capacity for perception.
