Increased body image concerns during COVID-19 restrictions
A study showed that people with past or current eating disorders showed higher perceived rate of change in body image, eating, and exercise. The increased desire to participate in exercise behaviors, appearance concerns, and preoccupation with food has been found to be higher in those with eating disorder than those with mental health history or development disorder. The study also found that individuals with greater levels of psychological destress have higher perceived change in eating and body image. The population of highest concern are women because studies have shown a disproportion in the changes in thoughts and behaviors which include things like appearance concerns, preoccupation with food, and difficulties maintaining regular eating habits.
