Avoidant Child-Caregiver Attachment in the Strange Situation

In the Strange Situation, a child with an avoidant attachment style shows indifference towards their caregiver. They do not use the caregiver as a secure base for exploration and are not distressed by their departure. The child treats the caregiver similarly to how they treat a stranger. Upon reunion, the child is slow to show a positive reaction. This attachment pattern is thought to stem from having a caregiver who is insensitive and inattentive to the child's needs.
