Attachment Styles Identified in the Strange Situation

Based on infant responses during the Strange Situation procedure, Mary Ainsworth originally identified three distinct patterns of parent-child attachment: secure, avoidant, and resistant. A fourth category, disorganized attachment, was later introduced by researchers Main and Solomon to classify behaviors that did not fit the initial three styles.
