The PANAS scale is one way to measure global affect. The scale consists of 20 emotional words (10 positive and 10 negative affect terms). People rate each term on a 1-5 scale pertaining to how they feel in general, in the past, or currently. This scale has been modified to have shortened versions and an expanded version.

The expanded version of the PANAS scale that contains a total of 60 emotional terms. This version is designed to measure 11 different types of affect: Fear, Sadness, Guilt, Hostility, Shyness, Fatigue, Surprise, Joviality, Self-Assurance, Attentiveness, and Serenity.
