Interpreting a Change in Work Hours

When an individual's wage rate increases, they face two conflicting pressures on their choice between work and free time. On one hand, the higher wage means each hour of free time now has a higher opportunity cost in terms of lost earnings, creating an incentive to work more. On the other hand, the individual is now able to earn their previous income with less work, creating an incentive to 'purchase' more free time. Analyze the following scenario in light of these two pressures and determine which pressure was stronger.
