Investment Expands the Feasible Set and Improves Welfare

A profitable investment opportunity guarantees an improvement in an individual's welfare because it expands their feasible set of consumption choices. While the individual's choice of present consumption may increase, decrease, or, as in Julia's case, remain the same, the expansion of options ensures they can reach a higher level of utility. This makes them unequivocally better off than they were without the investment.
